Emergency and compassionate food supplies for those in financial crisis

With figures showing that 12.4 million people are living below the poverty line in the UK, Towy Community Church has partnered with The Trussell Trust to run the foodbank in Carmarthen. This provides emergency and compassionate food supplies in partnership with voucher holders across the county.

Nutritionally balanced food for healthy meals 

Boxes of nutritionally balanced food and support will be given to people experiencing emotional or financial crisis. Each box contain 3 days worth of non-perishable food and will include menu planners to help people make healthy meals.

Restoring dignity and reviving hope

The food is donated by supermarkets, shoppers and members of the community. The service is run by a team of trained volunteers.

Carmarthen Foodbank Annual Report 2011

 

The very first person was fed by Carmarthen Foodbank on 17th of November 2010.  This was the day after giving a lunch time presentation to various organisations at The Ivy Bush hotel, Carmarthen.

Carmarthen Foodbank had a one off pre-Christmas open day on December 12th 2010 when 36 Christmas food parcels went out to people in crisis.

The Foodbank officially opened on Tuesday the 11th of January 2011 and has been open every Tuesday with the exception of the 27th of December 2011 and the 3rd of January 2012.

From the 17th of November 2010 to the end of December 2011 the Carmarthen Foodbank has fed 391 people.  This is approximately one person a day. This figure is made up of 267 adults and 124 children, children being nearly a third of the clients.

Over the same period of time 3,652.3kg’s of food has been donated to the Foodbank and a total of 3,196.9kg’s has been given out.

Thank you for your continued support!  To ensure that Carmarthen Foodbank can continue to meet the needs of people in crisis please continue with your support. The Carmarthen Foodbank is now open every Monday as well as Tuesdays 11am to 2pm except Bank Holidays.

We are frequently asked to provide service user stories to facilitate in Wales and UK statistics and to promote Trussell Trust Food Banks.   If you know of anybody that would assist in this process we would be very grateful.
